F. D. Maurice sees the future?
One of the benefits of writing on F. D. Maurice’s theology of religion is that I get to better acquaint myself with his work as a whole. Here’s a quotation from his Lincoln’s Inn Sermons of 1891:
“Are we to live in an age in which every mechanical facility for communication between man and man is multiplied ten-thousandfold, only that the inward isolation, the separation of those who meet continually, may be increased in far greater measure?”
Wow! Ouch! Wow!

The painting portrays different kinds of work. Maurice and Carlyle pictured on the right represent “brainworkers”
Thanks, Joe. I wonder what was going on around him that he was responding to.
